Musical Theatre

If you enjoy singing, dancing, acting and musicals, this class is for you! This course is for students who already have experience in theatre. Be prepared to challenge yourself and work hard. Past shows include Beauty and the Beast, West Side Story, Oklahoma, and 42nd Street.

Theatre Production

Theatre Production is an audition only class for students who already have experience in performing. Students are expected to have a background in theatre basics. This class produces two plays a year with most of the rehearsals taking place during class time. Past productions include A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Laramie Project, Dead Man Walking, Metamorphoses and You Can't Take it With You.

Children's Theatre

This class is for the child within. Children's theatre performs classic children's shows such as Winnie the Pooh, Disney's 101 Dalmatians, The Jungle Book, and Aladdin. This class is great for both first-time performers as well as those with more experience onstage. You will learn skills for singing, dancing and acting, as well as being cast in our children's show.

IB Theatre

This class is a way to learn a great deal about acting and theatre. Some students may find that they want to come back for another year, and some may decide that performing is not for them. There are many alternatives to performing in theatre that are explored including directing, costumes, lighting, sound, set construction, set design, make up, and many more. Students will also acquire skills that can be used in many other areas of life. At the end of the year, students will be featured in a showcase.

Technical Theatre

Get behind the scenes of a play or musical. If you enjoy working with lighting or sound, building sets and working with props or costumes, you will enjoy Technical Theatre. This class will teach you technical skills as well as the different techniques that bring life to a show. Students must work one crew on a show per semester.

ROP Stage Technology

This three level course provides students with the skills, knowledge and attitude to work backstage on theatrical productions or other live entertainment events. Develop planning and organizational skills necessary to work behind the scenes (Including theatrical lighting, stage management and sound reinforcement). Learn terminology, reliability, responsibility, and the ability to work independently and as a team player to create "magic" on stage. Course meets University of California A-G requirement.

ComedySportz Team

Comedy Sportz is competitive improvisational theatre played onstage with two teams of four players. CHS is a member of the Los Angeles Comedy Sportz League. This audition-only team trains with the professionals and competes with man of the 70 High School teams in our area. This is a great way for students to learn to think on their feet and improvise. Comedy Sportz matches, played throughout the school year, are G-Rated family fun.

Thespian Troupe 2129

The International Thespian Society is an honor society for theatre arts students, one of the only honor societies on campus. Once inducted, the lifetime membership gives students the opportunity to earn scholarships, attend festivals, and add to their resumes and college applications. CHS is home to one of the largest and most active Thespian Troupes in California.
