Every July 4th, the Claremont High School theatre program participates in the patriotic festival at Memorial Park, located in Claremont. The program enlists volunteers to help out at their infamous face painting booth. From 10 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon,  these theatre students work diligently to paint anything from fireworks to a dinosaur on the faces of excited children.

​This booth provides many benefits. For one, the students that help out gain a concession point, which is something very important when it comes to being a thespian. Current thespians need at least one concession point to continue being a thespian, while inductees need three. 

Our face-painting booth also is a small way to gain income for our department. This year, we had a suggested donation of $2. Many families were very eager to donate money, commenting on how our department deserves it so. One woman even donated money without getting her face-painted!

It also spreads the word about our wonderful program. Throughout the day, I interviewed families who came to our booth and asked about their knowledge of our program. One mother told me that she has never seen one of our productions because her child is quite young and wouldn't have the attention span to last through an hour-long play or musical. However, she is eager on seeing our shows now that her child is turning three. 

Another family I interviewed have been long-time CHS theatre fans. They watched every show in our last season and say that they are constantly blown away by all the remarkable talent that they see. 

I interviewed Jeremiah Alarcon, this year's vice president of Troop 2129. As vice president, he is in charge of managing the concession points that members of the troop gain by working events such as this one. He is also in charge of getting volunteers and coordinating these concession events, which mainly include face-painting booths and the concessions in the lobbies of our shows. 

According to Jeremiah, you will find CHS Theatre working other events around Claremont, such as Village Venture, so keep an eye out for us!
